My experience at Greenwich was phenomenal, the support was above and beyond.

Daniel Alvani talks us through his PGCE in Secondary Education with Biology course and his current master’s in Education, both studied at the University of Greenwich

“I choose the university for its teaching quality, as they did not disappoint.” Daniel explained. “The facilities are state-of-the-art. The location is great and very easy to get to both by car and public transport. I also appreciated the diversity of both student and teacher.”

When we asked Daniel about his experience, he told us “My experience with the university was phenomenal, the support was above and beyond. It did not matter what time I needed help, there was always someone available even at midnight, WOW! Thanks Lorraine!” Daniel went on to say that the staff always exceeded his expectations. “They truly went out of their way to provide support even when they were not expected to do so -thanks to Ade, Lorraine and Roz.”

When we asked Daniel to tell us more about his lecturers, he said: “What can I say, apart from they are a credit to the institution. They were all adaptable in the delivery of the course and so accommodating with respect to the constantly shifting uncertainty of the pandemic. They were all approachable and provided support in order for everyone to succeed.”

Due to the pandemic, Daniel only attended one placement. However, he says he immensely enjoyed his time with the school and the department and that they provided him enough variety in order to collect a robust amount of evidence to meet the teacher standards.

Also, although Daniel studied during the pandemic, he explains that he still made friends albeit virtually and that they collaborated on a range of tasks and projects. He goes on to say that they all still keep in contact.

Having completed his PGCE in Education, Daniel is now studying for his MA in Education and has already secured employment in a school as a science teacher. “I would not have had these opportunities if it was not for my course tutor who supported me in preparation for my interview and had recommended for me to enrol for the masters -thanks Ade.” Daniel told us.

When we asked Daniel to tell us about his current role, he explained “I'm an ECT secondary science teacher in a state-of-the-art school, I even have my own lab. I secured this job mid-way through my PGCE and without the skills taught by the university programme, I would not have secured such a fantastic position.”

We asked Daniel if he would recommend studying at the University of Greenwich. He revealed: “Definitely, it’s a no brainer. If any prospective wants state of the art facilities, award winning teachers, support that goes above and beyond. PICK THE UNIVERSITY OF GREENWICH!”

Finally Daniel would like to thank the staff. “I can't really thank the Secondary Educational PGCE staff enough, they truly went above and beyond for every single one of us.” He told us.

“Lorraine supported us all, there were times when I would send a question at midnight not expecting a response, and ping I get a response. She supported me in my work, she saw potential in me that I just could not see.”

“Roz, made virtual professional studies a blast, and kept us all on our toes. She even set up a virtual hang-out session on the eve, just so we could get to know each other on a more social level. Her feedback was always dramatic enough to get you just to put that little bit more effort in.

“Ade, he is the reason why I choose to further my knowledge with a master's. He saw potential in me, he always reassured me that I can achieve. Even when I was having doubts, he would call me out on it. The last lecture we had with Ade, and I'll never forget this - He told me ‘Dan have you applied yet?’ My response was ‘No I'm not sure.’ He told me ‘Dan, apply, you can do this!’

We thank Dan for sharing his story with us and wish him all the best for the future!
