tailor your studyAfter Year 1, our BSc (Hons) Economics and BA (Hons) Business Economics degrees offer several suggested option module pathways based on your interests. Each pathway involves taking 30-credits of specialised modules in Year 2, and 60-credits in Year 3, allowing you to focus your studies on either finance, public policy, or ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) issues.

Financial sector path

If you're thinking of a career in the financial sector, the suggested pathways on our degrees are:

  • BSc (Hons) Economics:
    • Year 2: Choose 'Banking & Finance in a Global Context I' (15 credits) plus either 'Banking & Finance in a Global Context II' (15 credits) or 'Climate Change & Investing' (15 credits)
    • Year 3: Choose a total of 60-credits from: 'Principles of Investment' (30 credits), 'Trading in Financial Markets' (30 credits), and 'ESG Investing' (30 credits)
  • BA (Hons) Business Economics
    • Year 2: Choose up to two modules (a total of 30 credits) from: 'Banking & Finance in a Global Context I' (15 credits), 'Banking & Finance in a Global Context II' (15 credits) and 'Climate Change & Investing' (15 credits)
    • Year 3: Choose up to a total of 60-credits from: 'Principles of Investment' (30 credits), 'Trading in Financial Markets' (30 credits), and 'ESG Investing' (30 credits)

Public Policy & Civil Service path

If you're interested in social issues and a possible future with the Civil Service, we'd suggest - on either degree - considering the options below:

  • Year 2: Choose 'Economics of Social Change' (15 credits) and 'International Trade & Development' (15 credits)
  • Year 3: Choose 'Economics of Public Policy' (30 credits) and 'Monetary Economics' (30 credits)

Environmental Focus path

If you're committed to environmental concerns, we'd suggest - on either degree - considering the options below:

  • Year 2: Choose 'Climate Change & Investing' (15 credits) and 'The Economy & the Environment' (15 credits)
  • Year 3: Progress to 'ESG Investing' (30 credits) and 'Applied Data Analysis for Sustainable Futures' (30 credits)
