BA Hons in Business with Marketing ( Second Year) - Student Experience

Which course are you studying at Greenwich and why?

I am currently studying for BA Hons in Business with Marketing (second year). I chose to study business with marketing because marketing is  central to every organisation’s strategy. Still, I do reckon that marketing alone is not enough, and all the departments and operations within a business are essential and valuable for fulfilling the purpose of a business. The course touches the different operations giving me a clear understanding of the business functions and processes from a marketing perspective. Studying this course at University of Greenwich has allowed me to explore fantastic modules in a language that can be understood worldwide. Therefore, I am proud of my choice of studying at University of Greenwich.

What do you think makes Greenwich stand out?

Greenwich University stands out for many things. One of these is the incredible location that I think can inspire every business student. Studying, working and running life in London sometimes can be challenging. Still, I remember, especially in my first year, that every time I was on the campus studying for an assignment or a project, the incredible view of the Canary Wharf used to re-charge and motivate me. Another point that makes University of Greenwich stand out is the team of lecturers and tutors who have helped me achieve my goals and explore new ones. And last but not least, the BSEO has been supporting me since year one, allowing me to realise and explore my soft skills and employability horizons. They played a big game in helping me find a placement this year and I am grateful to them

What are the best things about your course and why?

I would say the learning opportunities that can be easily applied in the actual field. I studied many frameworks and software such as SPSS or Microsoft Project, which is a skill in demand from companies and would benefit my CV. Another great thing about my course are the modules I studied because they offer many graduate prospects to explore different career paths.

What’s your favourite module/subject?

Tough question! I enjoyed most of the modules across these two years as they gave me different insights into how businesses work. But if I had to choose one, in particular, I would go for Customer Insight and Research. I loved exploring how the consumers learn, perceive and behave and how their customer journey can be influenced to purchase. Honestly, this module gave me some kind of motivation to pursue maybe a Master’s in Psychology and NeuroMarketing after finishing my BA.

How has your course helped develop your passions?

This course has helped me develop my passion by giving me many opportunities through events and seminars and I got the opportunity to meet so many passionate people, who love what they are doing and the sectors where they are working. I had the chance to meet different professionals and entrepreneurs that critically gave me a perspective of where I would like to see myself in the future.

How have you found blended learning?

I wasn’t enthusiastic about the idea of having a blended learning approach at the beginning. I missed hanging out with my colleagues after every tutorial and the face-to-face interactions with the lecturers and tutors. However, I must say that blended learning had its benefits. I found that this approach can be really flexible and massively adaptable. I had the opportunity to customise my academic year based on my full-time work schedule. It was great having the chance to watch and re-watch what my lectures said in class just with a click away. Also, I am pleased to say that I felt supported by my tutors and lecturers that were always available for a meeting whenever I had any concerns or questions about the modules.

What are your plans for the future?

The main plan at the moment is to start my placement year this summer and try to explore and get as much as I can from this experience. Then, I would like to complete my degree with a first-class and replan for what it will be next.

What advice would you give to people thinking about applying to Greenwich?

Honestly, it wasn’t an easy decision to make. As an Italian living abroad, I thought it would have been harder to study in London (and sometimes it is), but it is 100% worth it in hindsight. I had great experiences that improved me both personally and professionally. Also, I made great friendships that are still going on today. I don’t know whether I would work in the marketing environment for my whole life, but I like it. Therefore, the advice I could give to the new students that want to apply, is to think about what you like the most and what you are curious about and explore it in-depth in one of the courses offered at University of Greenwich.
