Hi, my name is Bryan Ribeiro Schaper. I am originally from Brazil, but I was raised in the UK. I studied International Business (BA Hons) at the University of Greenwich from 2019 to 2022.
There are the two unique qualities that made the University of Greenwich stand out for me; opportunities and diversity. The university has a great range of opportunities for professional development including internships, part-time jobs, placements and the support of a great employability team (BSEO). But also, the diverse range of people you will meet during your time at the University of Greenwich is invaluable. There are people from all backgrounds for you to network with and create lasting friendships.
I chose to study International Business here at the Greenwich Business School because I believed it would provide me with a greater understanding of how to manage and grow a business in a foreign country. This is what I planned on doing in the future, therefore I thought it would be the best way to start to gain all the knowledge I would need.
My degree was so diverse which really broadened my knowledge overall.
The course content itself covered a range of important and contemporary topics, ranging from business management and organisational functions to international strategies and emerging markets. The assignments throughout the three years were immersive and stimulating as they were not just essays, but instead involved group tasks and simulations. The academic team are truly fantastic.
Every lecturer I had were very experienced and most importantly, skilled business people. The dedication of the professors to educating and supporting me as well as all the other students was very inspiring.
My favourite module was “financial aspects of international business”. This is because it covered one of the core aspects of business management, but also because I enjoyed completing a company financial analysis as part of the assignment.
I believe the completion of this programme has helped my career prospects, especially because of the dual accreditation (CMI certificate + the degree). My next steps will be to secure a full-time business analyst (or associate) role at a medium to large enterprise in order to develop my business acumen and management skills. My goal for the future is to become a chartered manager.
My advice for current and future students is to set goals and build a plan to reach them. As the saying goes “a fool with a plan is better than a genius without one”. On that note, also don’t let anything steal your focus from that goal. There will be many distractions during your time at university, your job is to stay focused and remember why you’re at university in the first place. Last but not least, enjoy the journey and take time to meet new people and form new friendships!
