January marks International Mentoring Month, an opportunity to recognise and spotlight some of our inspiring mentors.

January marks International Mentoring Month, an opportunity to recognise and spotlight some of our inspiring mentors.

The contribution our alumni mentor make to our mentoring programme is truly invaluable.

Our mentees receive support from their mentors through one-to-one meetings, training sessions and drop-in sessions ensuring they get the absolute most out of mentoring. Students can also attend exclusive workshops and networking events to help build skills and their networks.

We thank all of our alumni mentors for their dedication and commitment to our mentees. You have helped to empower students across the university and given them the confidence and skills to help them with their careers – whether that is moving up the job ladder and finding their dream role.

We spoke to members of our mentoring community who wanted to share the importance of mentoring and why they became a mentor.

Clinton Niemba, Bachelor of Science, 2018:

During my time as a university student, I had a few mentors on campus who would offer their advice & guidance which helped massively, during tough periods of my university years it enabled me to remain focused to accomplish my goals.

Dastan Shukanayev, BSc (Hons), Economics, 2013:

Becoming a mentor was a natural choice for me, driven by a belief in the transformative power of knowledge-sharing. Having benefited from mentors in my own journey, I wanted to pay it forward and contribute to the growth of others. Being a mentor allows me to witness individuals’ evolution, contribute to their success, and be part of a cycle of learning and empowerment that extends beyond individual achievements.
