Abstract:
Individuals across genders are subject to sexual violence. Though laws and policies have been implemented, rape victims continue to face social stigma affecting their mental and physical health causing psychological trauma which is “frequently of greater severity than the physical event.” Many rape victims, including minors, have been forced to give birth after the rape or forced to get married to the accused, thus silencing their voice and undermining their trauma.
The work looks into the kind of stigma and taboo that rape victims face due to the existence of social stereotypes and also delves into the concept of sexuality and sexual rights across gender which helps in understanding and spreading awareness concerning reproductive rights of rape victims and the laws related to it in South Asia.
