While on placement in a local primary school, a Greenwich English student has taken the initiative to help pupils’ parents to build their language skills
As part of her studies on the BA (Hons) English Language and English Language Teaching degree, Sabrina is undertaking a placement at Middle Park Primary School in Eltham.
While supporting both staff and pupils with their work, Sabrina has gone further and taken the lead in setting up English language classes for pupils’ parents whose first language is not English. Using the expertise in language teaching which she’s developing on her degree course, Sabrina’s initiative is both helping parents and their children, and is also benefiting the local community.
Sabrina is inspired by Nelson Mandela’s view that "education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. She wants to make education an experience which will benefit students and their families in the best way possible.
The 30-credit work placement module Sabrina is taking is offered on Greenwich’s undergraduate English, History, International Relations, and Sociology courses, with students encouraged to undertake placements related to their degrees and/or potential career path.
