Announcing the publication of the final report for the Polygamy Matters project led by Elena Vacchelli with MEWSo. This work focused on work with 3 years of community engagement funded by the The National Lottery Community Fund.
The report recommendations highlight the following:
- We need more awareness, education, community engagement, support services for women in polygamy
- Role of community organisations such as MEWSo in addressing polygamy particularly within Muslim communities is key: importance of culturally sensitive interventions
- Need for greater collaboration between government agencies, community organisations and religious leaders to develop effective strategies to prevent negative effects of polygamy: combination of legal protection and community-driven mechanisms
