When Freya was looking for a university that best met her interests, Greenwich, with its broad range of programmes in Mathematics was top on her list.
“I was searching for a course that was well-suited to my mathematical interests, particularly Data Science,” she says.
“Greenwich offered courses that were far more statistically based than other university courses that I had looked at which really appealed to me.”
Studying in London
A rich student experience in a vibrant city was also important to Freya. “I wanted to have the University experience in London,” she says.
“Being encapsulated in the culture and history of the capital whilst studying was an incredible prospect - and one that truly enhanced my whole academic experience at Greenwich.”
In 2018/19, Freya became President of MATHSOC, the student-led mathematical society with a long and proud history of enhancing the student experience for Greenwich students.
Freya raised it to new heights during her tenure, winning Society of the Year at the Greenwich Students’ Union Award.
Pursuing a teaching career
While in her final year, Freya secured a salaried teacher-training position at her first-choice school and is currently pursuing a teaching career.
She is indebted to the staff in the Mathematics department for the opportunities she has taken away.
“The student voice is taken very seriously,” she says. “It is something that I feel has made a tremendous impact on my experience.”
