Key steps on a learner's journey

1. Recruitment

Before you are admitted on an apprenticeship programme with us, we will check that:

  • This is the right programme for you
  • You meet our entry requirements, including funding criteria and programme prerequisites
  • You have an employment contract in place with your employer that covers the whole programme, including your end-point assessment.
  • We have all the other paperwork we need from your employer
  • You have Level 2 English and mathematics (equivalent to GCSE C/4). If you don’t have either of these, we will advise you on how to achieve this.

2. Initial assessment

Before your apprenticeship begins, you will take part in an initial assessment with us and your employer. This will ensure you understand your apprenticeship standard and will help us create the individual learning and training plan you need to achieve it. Any learning needs or other requirements for additional support will also be addressed at this stage.
If necessary, we will put in place a Greenwich Inclusion Plan, which supports students with a disability or other condition that might impact on their ability to learn.

3. Induction

At the start of each degree apprenticeship, we host induction sessions for learners and their employers. This is our chance to:

  • Introduce ourselves in person; this will include meeting your apprenticeship skills coach
  • Explain your programme and your responsibilities in more detail
  • Review with you the services available from the university, such as libraries and student support. We will talk through the process and ensure that you are fully supported along the way.

4. Studying

Depending on your programme, you will study with us via face-to-face and online teaching, learning through our virtual learning environments as well as via seminars.
You will also participate in work-based learning with your employer.
Your employer must also make sure that you have everything you need to complete your off-the-job training.
If you have specific learning needs that require adjustments, additional funding is available to ensure that they are supported for the duration of the apprenticeship.

5. Ongoing progress reviews

You must be assessed formally at regular intervals through both academic and work-based assessments. You will attend progress review meetings with your employer and apprenticeship skills coach.
Your skills coach will give you advice and guidance on how to develop and evidence the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed as part of your programme.

6. The end-point assessment

The final stage of your apprenticeship is your end-point assessment. This establishes whether you have achieved the knowledge, skills and behaviours outlined in your apprenticeship standard.
You must pass this to successfully complete your programme.

7. Completion and graduation

Completing your apprenticeship is something to celebrate. We will invite you to a graduation ceremony, where you can mark this important life event in style. You will also become part of our vibrant and diverse alumni community.
